The Malacca River Cruise

Last weekend we were at Malacca. balik kampung.. Normally we seldom go out but this time since it is a school holiday and we didn’t go anywhere, we decided bringing the children out for some ‘adventure’.

On Friday night we took the children for river cruising. Some says the vacation is not complete without taking a cruise down Malacca River. Indeed it is true! The river boat will cruise up the shallow Malacca River from her river mouth to Kampong Morten where the boat makes her return trip. The distance is about 10 km from the jetty and takes about 45 minutes to 1 hour.

All of us were very excited once in the boat. As the boat cruised further up, we saw old shop houses that built on left and right banks. Though the view was the back of the premises, it still looked clean and well taken care. Most of the houses built along the riverbanks during Dutch rule are featuring long and narrow architectural design.

We passed several bridges. The weather was very calm n I really enjoyed the spectacular view. The final sight before heading back is the famous Kampung Morten located on the left bank. Kampung Morten is a typical Malay village in the heart of Melaka town, which is still very well preserving its cultural colours amidst modernization.

I like to see this Kampung Morten as it represents the national Malaysian heritage. It is like a living museum as many of its villagers are still preserving its age-old living style apart from the unique architecture of their traditional houses. The houses look so beautiful with its own traditional ways. Maybe next time we would pay a visit to Kg Morten.

Nabila and Liyana (my niece) were excited asking lots of questions turning their head left and right. Where else Hakeem during half of the journey already complaining feeling bored! During the cruise we passed by the Pirate Park which located at the old terminal bus. There was when Hakeem immediately stood up n wanted to go there.

As not to upset the children after the cruise we drove to the Pirate Park. There were only two rides but they were still thrilled macam lah kat Disneyland! Segar bugar mata semua..

We ended our night by having supper at the mamak stall. It was a long night but the children enjoyed it so much.
